We are committed to respecting the distinct rights of Indigenous Peoples

At Lakewood Electric Ltd. (LE), we recognize the history, uniqueness and diversity of Indigenous Peoples and to build trust and lasting relationships with them. Lakewood’s Aboriginal Relations Policy is flexible to address the legal, social and economic realities of Aboriginal Communities across Canada. Lakewood is committed to open and honest consultation and engagement with Indigenous communities.

Lakewood engages with Indigenous Peoples to:

  • Build respectful lasting relationships through early, inclusive dialogue and collaborative processes
  • To build the capacity of both Indigenous Peoples and Lakewood for meaningful dialogue
  • Learn and integrate Indigenous Peoples’ perspectives and traditional knowledge into Lakewood to enhance benefits and opportunities
  • Work with Indigenous Peoples to achieve self-defined community goals that provide lasting benefits

Indigenous Employment

We are continuing our efforts to increase Indigenous employment by working in partnership with communities, schools and local governments.

Our policies, programs and initiatives involving Indigenous peoples and communities are rooted in our respect for their formal and informal rights and interests.
